"Audience laughter was frequent, loud, and sustained." -John Towson, All Fall Down
"While on the surface Flocked looks simple and sweet - nothing more than a mime about birds – it’s actually a complex bit of theatre which highlights basic human (and presumably bird) themes with humor and finesse." -Karen Tortora- The Happiest Medium
Enter a world created by sound, emotion and physical comedy to meet the two birds Pepper y Chula. Like their compatriots in Mexico and the United States—they eye each other with fear, competition and withering stereotypes. Living side by side, they are forced to sort out their pecking order, their boundaries and what they might be willing to compromise to get along. What will make these caged birds sing together?

“The hilarious Audrey Crabtree you won’t soon forget.”—Nytheatre.com
Audrey Crabtree and Gabriela Muñoz met at the NY Clown Theatre Festival in 2010 and bonded over a month of traveling and working with compromised communities the following spring in Mexico. It was there that they began developing and showcasing excerpts from "Flocked".
They continued working on the project online via conference calls and writing exchanges. Over the internet they also teamed up with the Spanish design company Vodevil Costumes. After an exchange of images sketches and measurements the costumes were sent to NYC for the premiere in the 2011 NY Clown Theatre Festival.
The were joined by the international clown-star Hilary Chaplain as director the three women combinded the previous work and developed new material in an intensive rehearsal process.
"Flocked" was created to appeal to all kinds of audiences internationally. It is relevent in places where people from different cultures live side by side, as well the struggles we all have co-habitating in the world on a daily basis.

"the sense of conspiratorial participation was intoxicating." - Roberta Smith, New York Times
"Especially effective was the performance's disembodied Voice, spoken by the actor Lynn Berg, which resounded through the theater and was mimed by the actress Audrey Crabtree playing a labile and vulnerable clown. Beneath the laughs, the knives were sharp." -Faye Hirsch, Art in America
"The hypocrisy of the American political program, the emptiness of its rhetoric -- by now clichéd, common knowledge -- was brightened and reinvigorated by Laser’s clever, at times hilarious production." -Emily Nathan, Artnet-
I Feel Your Pain features actors Lynn Berg, Audrey Crabtree, Ray Field, Annie Fox, Kathryn Grody, Rafael Jordan, Liz Micek, and Ryan Shams. The video will be made with producer David Guinan and cinematographers Matthew Nauser and Collin Kornfeind of Polemic Media; costume stylist Felicia Garcia-Rivera; production assistants Lucia Hinojosa, Jamie Kelly, Boman Modine and Rose Swan. For Performa 11, the 4th Edition of the New Visual Art Performance Biennial, Liz Magic Laser will present a new mixed-media performance, I Feel Your Pain, that will restage America’s recent political contests as a romantic drama. Drawing on a variety of agitprop theater tactics, particularly the Russian Constructivist idea of a “living newspaper,” the performance will examine how emotion is used to establish authenticity on America’s political stage.
Staged in a movie theater, I Feel Your Pain will take place simultaneously in the midst of the audience and on the cinema’s screen. Eight actors will perform a sequence of scenes that will trace the progression of a romantic relationship in adapted dialogues taken from political interviews and press conferences with Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck, amongst others. Borrowing elements from historic “living newspaper” productions, the performance will feature live voice-overs, pantomime fight scenes, and mute commentaries by a clown. As the actors perform, live film from two cinematographers in the audience will be projected onto the screen as a continuous feed, with Laser acting as a real-time editor, choosing which camera angles the audience will see.

Co-presented by the School of Visual Art’s Visual and Critical Studies and BFA Fine Arts Departments. Supported by Performa Curators Circle member Joanne Cassullo/Dorothea Leonhardt Fund, Esther Kim Varet and Joseph Varet, Communities Foundation of Texas, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and The Dedalus Foundation.

My love of comedy was fostered in a basement full of danger and fun. Banished to play in the basement to play my brother, cousin , we threw caution to the wind and would listen to the forbidden Steve Martin record, Wild and Crazy Guy!. (It was Missouri in the 70s people.) We knew, by heart, every word, inflection, every pause and roar of the crowd. It was amazing the first time I saw him perform some of the same material, I don't really have the words to express the satisfaction. Ah the guilty pleasure. Have some for yourself here:

"Mrs. Cratchit played brilliantly by Audrey Crabtree – bringing a deeper balance of a strong woman that loves her children and husband, a perfect mother. When Mrs. Cratchit walked on stage, you knew this was her loving home. Audrey Crabtree turns a cherished day in a starvation situation bright. At the same time brings a sense of suffering because of greed and has the spine to say so."
"And a very special surprise was Audrey Crabtree as Mrs. Cratchit — a very good role for her, as it allows her to display a good bit of range: Loving homemaker in one scene, mourning mother in another, and feisty working class wife throughout. (Audrey correctly perceived some of the comic potential in the later scenes. Mrs. Cratchit to my mind is in the grand old tradition of Noah’s wife from the Mystery Plays — practical and plain-spoken, and therefore hilarious.)"
